Ken Matthews Gets B104-Benched

After 15 years in the morning show slot at B104, the station abruptly decided to pull Ken Matthews off the air when his contract ended Friday, according to Susan Kalan of The Express-Times found on NJ.com.

The report says Ken Matthews is still employed by the station's corporate monster-owner, Clear Channel, which I guess means he's off the air but getting paid (sounds good to me!) On the other hand, since his contract ended, he's probably only getting paid minimum wage while they hold him back from going to work for the competition (is there any in Whitehall Township, PA?)

Mike Kelly, the B-104 afternoon guy, is all-too-happy to take over Ken Matthews' morning slot until a new morning host is found. But who is left doing afternoons? I don't know - please post 'em if you got 'em.

Here are your 3 links for Whitehall Township, PA:

Ummm, nevermind.

Exactly why I started this site... They don't tell us anything, and they don't give their DJs any warning. It's just wrong.

I am really going to miss Ken in the morning. He was doing a great job. Everyone I talk to listened to him. I can't believe he was just replaced and the station acts like nothing is different. That is really not right. Do a good job and you can still be replaced.

Ken Matthews was an essential part of the work-day morning. I continue to listen to B104 out of habit; however, my "normal" mornings are anything but normal because the programming stinks! Okay, they got rid of Ken, but why say nothing to the listening public who have been following him for the past 15 years?
Good Luck, Ken - if you are reading this or see it, please know that you were one in a million and the mornings are not the same.a

I can not believe they got rid of Ken Matthews. Ken Matthews IS B104. Mornings are not the same without him. This was a terrible decision by the radio station - they have alienated their listeners and fans. I wish Ken the best of luck and hope he knows how much the listening audience misses him!!

I agree with everyone else here....mornings are not the same, without Ken on the radio. As soon as I find out where he is hosting, I will begin listening to that new station. Yes, I am listening to B104 for now, out of habit, but I am not loyal to the station. Ken, if you have access to these posts, remember people have to look at themselves in the mirror, each day. If they can feel like they have been upfront and honest, then there should be no guilt about what has been done. My guess is, there are a lot of people, from B104, living with guilt, each day!!! This cannot hurt you.....you will come out on top!!! God bless you and your family and thank you for all the FUN each morning, for the past 15 years.

I have heard some negative things said about Ken that could have been reasons as to why they decided to get rid of him, but I think he was a popular morning radio host and people that enjoied listening to him are going to notice he is gone and find another station to listen to.

I listen to a radio station because I like the DJ and the program. B104 is not on my button selector anymore. I listen to 99.9 the hawk now.

Still missing Ken! Changed the radio station to 99.9, now!

Finally!!!! I quit listening to B104 last year BECAUSE of Ken Matthews. What an annoying way to start the day. I just found out he is no longer there so I will add B104 back to the preset in my car.

Flipping thru radio stations last night in a rental car while my car is getting fixed, I heard a familiar voice on NJ 101.5..listened for a couple minutes and realized it was Ken Matthews! I remember listening to Ken mornings on B104 when I worked in Allentown,PA and he actually played a dance remix of My Heart Will Go On by Deja Vu but stopped it half way through cuz of morons calling in complaining about it...I loved the song and ended up buying it after hearing him play it. And who could forget The Hampster Dance song! He actually played that too. Great to hear him on the radio again although he really shouldn't use so much echo...sounds too CBS-FMish.
